I have worked in the UK Financial Services industry since graduating from university in 1996 (in Applied Chemistry). I decided to change my career as my current position of mortgage adviser no longer gives me the sense of satisfaction and achievement it once did.

I recently obtained my TEFL certificate through an Intensive Training Course, and I am available for work from February 2010.

Although I have no specific experience of teaching English, I do have classroom experience. In one of my previous positions I trained prospective financial advisers and mortgage advisers achieve their professional qualifications. My role involved lesson planning, giving the lessons and also preparing candidates for their examinations.

I would also be an ideal candidate to teach business English in view of my experience in the financial services sector.

March 09 to present, Mortgage Adviser, Connells Group, Northwich

In this role, I give multi-tied mortage and tied mortgage related insurance advice to estate agency applicants. Most of the clients fit in to the purchaser category, generally main residence or buy-to-let customers, with a very small percentage of clients requiring remortgage advice. I also have to hit minimum target levels and meet deadlines.


Feb 08 to March 09, Mortgage Adviser, Stone Financial Consultants Ltd, Liverpool

I provided whole of market, independent mortgage and general insurance advice to various clients, particularly those employed in the military sector. I gave briefings to military personnel and their families who are based in the UK, Germany, Cyprus and Gibraltar. I also opened up new markets in terms of military bases where the company had no presence.

My main responsibily was giving independent mortgage, equity release and general insurance advice to new and existing clients. My client bank ranged from 'normal' residential customers to business owners with commercial needs and those with buy to let portfolios.

I was also responsible for recruiting and training mortgage advisers, from trainee level through to competent status. I had overall responsibility for ensuring the quality of mortgage advice, and ensuring company and regulator standards of training and competence were met.

In my final year I set up an overseas arm of the company, and provided advice to clients seeking properties in countries such as Spain, Cyprus, Turkey and Morocco.

March 99 to Oct 02, Compliance Director, PJR Consultancy, Liverpool

I had responsibility for the total compliance function of the company (forty advisers in several locations), including auditing of client files, maintaining training and competence standards of both advisers and support staff, complaints handling, maintaining correct records and dealing with the regulator. I also recruited and trained eight paraplanners to provide first class support to the advisers which resulted in an 18% increase in sales.

I also began a 'training academy' once the regulator set a deadline for mortgage advisers to have CeMAP or equivalent. This involved marketing the concept to mortgage practices within the Liverpool area. I also secured a contract to provide training to a firm of advisers in Wolverhampton. This involved providing lectures and setting examinations to \'students\'.  I had a 100% success rate, with 22 advisers achieving the full qualification. Furthermore, I used the same approach with the paraplanning unit, where 6 candidates successfully achieved the Full Financial Planning Certificate.
